If you're seeking a job in the video game industry, you most likely already know the way to get you're feet in is through testing video games. In order for anyone to become a video game tester there are only 5 simple steps you need to take.
First, you need to be serious about gaming. What does this mean? This means you need experience and be skilled at playing & beating all different types of games (RPG's, first-person-shooters, sports games, etc.).If you're familiar with just one genre of games, all you have to do is go out and rent some games, and get used to them.
Having played more consoles helps too. So the more consoles you're familiar with the more likely you are of getting called for a job.
Second thing you need to do is, start applying for game testing jobs immediately. Contact the gaming companies you would like to work for. Tell them who you are, what you're skills are and how you can help them develop better games. Don't be afraid to brag about how many games you own, or have beaten. Remember for the most part these people are just like the average gamer, just be real with them, but be persuasive too. You want them to feel like they have to hire you for this job.
Third, you need to become more experienced. The more games you test, the higher the pay. In the beginning it might feel like you're working for minimum wage. But if you show the companies that your good at finding bugs, giving good feedback and being on time with your reports, you will be able to build your resume. What does this mean?? More money for your work!
Fourth thing you need to do is develop contacts in the gaming industry itself. How do you do this? Most people in the gaming industry are pretty cool. Just make sure you give a good first impression, be a people person. You'll soon become friends with the developers, and programmers. You can also become friends with other game testers, do them a simple favor every now and then. Help them out in a project, after that I'm sure that if they get a project somewhere they'll put in a good word for you.
Fifth and final thing you want to do is, learn from scratch. There are plenty of successful game testers out there who already been through the hardships of becoming a video game tester. Learn from their mistakes, remember you're new, in order for you to succeed you'll need to know where to go. Just take in what they have to say and apply it to your work. Soon enough you won't be a "noob" anymore.
